ABOUT
ME

I have a great passion for digital communications, advocacy and activism. It all began with a few fundraiser challenges and a hobby of taking photos. I then realized the impact of supporting charities, non-profits and other organizations through not only photography but other digital mediums too.

I now work and volunteer for many different organizations on incredible projects which strive to make systemic change and seek social justice. I contribute towards these goals through various forms of media, campaigning, fundraising and training. Learn about my experience below.

WORK

Nanaimo Homeless Coalition - 2021

I worked as a communications generalist for the Nanaimo Homeless Coalition in 2021 through a Nanaimo-based agency that specializes in not-for-profit marketing and communications. I worked with a small team to create resources for the website, newsletter and social media. The materials I created varied in content, exploring Nanaimo's affordable housing crisis, homelessness crisis, British Columbia's opioid crisis, and more. It is estimated that over 6000 people are living on the brink of homelessness in Nanaimo.

Dyslexia Canada - 2020 to present

I began working with Dyslexia Canada in June 2020 when I was hired to produce and manage their podcast, Sharing Stories. I am now their Communications and Outreach Manager. The word dyslexia isn't commonly used in Canada and there is a lot of taboo and controversy surrounding this learning difference. As I have dyslexia, I thoroughly enjoy raising awareness, working towards systemic change in Canada and supporting Dyslexia Canada on its mission to make change for children with dyslexia.

Employ to Empower - 2020 & 2021

In December 2020, I discovered Employ to Empower and the amazing work they do through volunteering at their seventh annual Vancouver Street Store event. Since 2019, homelessness in the downtown eastside community has increased by 61%. Employ to Empower strives to provide entrepreneurial resources to the residents within this community as well as advocating for positive social change. Recently, I joined the team as a photographer for their third annual Cardboard Project event.

Peaceful Dumpling - 2020 to 2021

Peaceful Dumpling is an online vegan magazine that aims to illuminate conscious and sustainable living through positive and original writing. Since May 2020, I have been a staff writer for Peaceful Dumpling and have contributed several articles covering a variety of topics. For me, Peaceful Dumpling is a great platform to share my voice, encourage others to support progressive causes and inspire positive change within any community. From op-eds to listicles, I enjoy the creative freedom this role has to offer.

Restless Development - 2018 to 2021

In 2018, I volunteered in Nepal with Restless Development through the ICS program. I was also successful in my application to become a Youth Reporter. Once I returned to the UK I was eager to remain involved with this agency and so I became a guest blogger. Since then, I have had many incredible opportunities, from being a freelance volunteer trainer to being on the Restless Youth Team to working on their communications team. I am also proud to have been awarded the Restless Development Values Champion Award in 2019.

Youth Stop AIDS - 2018

Youth Stop AIDS (YSA) is a youth-led movement that speaks out and takes action for a world without AIDS and HIV. YSA is run by Restless development and supported by STOP AIDS. In 2018 I photographed the Youth Stop AIDS day of action and was a videographer for the Youth Stop AIDS Speaker Tour. During my time capturing both of these events, I learned a lot about the injustice, stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV and AIDS. My photography was used on social media to lobby the government as well as raise awareness of this movement.
